Tranexamic Acid: The New Golden Active

Tranexamic acid (TXA) is a synthetic derivative of the amino acid lysine. It offers a highly effective and generally safe treatment for melasma and other hyperpigmentation disorders. Its multi-targeted mechanism of action, which reduces inflammation and inhibits melanogenesis, makes it a versatile agent in dermatology.

TXA decreases the inflammatory mediators which are typically released upon UV exposure and contribute to increased pigmentation. Tranexamic acid also reduces the interaction between keratinocytes and melanocytes, thereby decreasing the transfer of melanin to the skin cells. TXA has been shown to exert significant anti-inflammatory properties, which is particularly beneficial for those whose pigmentation disorders are aggravated by skin inflammation.
